Pacific Land supports education on biotechnology

On 15 September 2010, Pacific Land, the Irish investor of Hanoi Biotech Park project (Habotec) signed a Financial Donation Agreement with Institute for Microbiology and Biotechnology (IMBT), an institute under Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) on which Pacific Land undertakes to provide a financial donation of USD60,000 in 3 years to IMBT to support IMBT in provision of Masters Course in Biotechnology to local students. The Course is provided by IMBT in collaboration with University of Liège (the second ranking university of Belgium). Students who complete the Course will be granted with a Masters Degree in Biotechnology co-issued by VNU and University of Liège.

The Financial Donation Agreement is under the umbrella of a MOU between Pacific Land and VNU signed on 1st July 2010 setting up a long-term close collaboration between the two parties with the aims of development of a high-skilled biotechnological workforce in Vietnam. Pacific Land has also signed a Scholarship Agreement with VNU earlier on which Pacific Land provides scholarships of approximately USD50,000 to students of VNU to study on a masters course in biotechnology at the University College Dublin, Ireland.

Habotec is a biotechnology park of 200ha at Tu Liem district, Hanoi developed by Pacific Land under Investment License no.011043000307 dated 12 March 2008 issued by Hanoi People’s Committee. Habotec is expected to be a centre of biotechnology development for agriculture, medical and health care. Habotec will also have international universities and hospitals for research and application of biotechnology.
